We Are the Warriors

I once heard a speaker refer to my generation (Millennials) as the porn generation. We’re the first generation to grow up with the internet, and thus the first generation with access to pornography from childhood. He said that 90% of college-aged men watch pornography. While he talked a lot about men and their addictions, he didn’t talk about how it affects their women. So I wrote a poem about us.

WE ARE THE WARRIORS

We are the warriors,
the daughters of the porn generation,
grieving our brothers, boyfriends, husbands, dads
–no one’s gone unscarred.

We lovers gave up long ago
the dream our breasts could be his first
and beg to God they’ll be his last,
plead against another relapse.

We rush the battlefield,
pour grace like saline on the wounds,
knowing their hearts need
the warmth of hands, the softness of skin
to re-begin.

And we insist that porn’s not enough for our men
We fight to show them they’re enough for love
And so are we.

P.S. Below is the story from Matt, a man from my generation who first saw pornography at age 10. I hope his story encourages you that there is hope!
