My Story

It seems that Christians fall in either one of two camps. Either they say, “God’s in control,” and do little to fight the injustices in the world. Or they run themselves into the ground, working as if everything depended on their efforts. As if they are the world’s only hope for salvation.

For years, I fell in line with the second camp, insisting that everyone go be a missionary and getting frustrated when no one cared about the same things that I cared about. Then I went to be a missionary and realized that I could work till I was blue in the face, and the world would still be a mess. God had to save the world because I couldn’t.

In this blog, I explore the tension we’re called to live in–the tension between God’s sovereignty over us and his commission to us. The God who said “Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations” is the same God who said, “Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”

Cease striving.

Give yourself fully.

The God who commands us to be still is the same God who commands us to work. As we fight for justice, we rest in Jesus.
